Privacy Policy

1. The short version

Candid is a dating app built on live photos. We collect what we need to show you real people nearby, keep the community safe, and run your membership. We do not sell your personal data.

2. What we collect

• Account details — name, email address, password (stored hashed), and how you signed in (email or Google).
• Profile details — age or date of birth, gender, interests, prompts and answers, and the live photos you capture in the app.
• Location — the city, country and approximate coordinates you allow, used to show you people and Candids nearby.
• Activity — likes, matches, unmatches, messages, Candids, comments, reactions, reviews, reports and notification history.
• Billing — your subscription status and dates. Card details are handled by our payment processor; Candid never sees or stores your card number.
• Technical data — device and browser information, log data and error reports used to keep the app working.

3. Why we use it

• To create your account and run the service you asked for.
• To show you nearby members and a local Candid feed.
• To send matches, messages, reply and reaction notifications, and service emails.
• To detect fake profiles, moderate reports and keep members safe.
• To bill your membership after the 30-day free period.
• To improve the app and, as described below, to promote it.

4. Who can see what

Your profile, photos and Candids are visible to other members in your area. Comments and reactions on Candids are visible to anyone who can see that Candid, matched or not. Direct messages are visible only to you and your match, and to our moderation team if reported.

Marketing use of public posts. By accepting our Terms of Service you agree that Candid may repost or feature your public Candids — image, first name and accompanying words — on Candid's social media pages, website and marketing material. Private messages are never used for this. Email hello@datecandid.com to opt out or ask us to take a post down.

5. Who we share data with

We share limited data with service providers who help us run Candid: cloud hosting and database, email delivery, payment processing, and error monitoring. They may only use it to provide their service to us. We may also disclose data where the law requires it, or where it is necessary to protect someone's safety or our legal rights. We do not sell your data or share it with advertisers.

6. How long we keep it

We keep your data while your account is active. When you delete your account we remove your profile and photos from the app, and delete or anonymise your remaining data within a reasonable period, except where we must keep records for legal, safety, moderation or accounting reasons. Content already published to our social channels under the licence in the Terms may remain there unless you ask us to remove it.

7. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, restrict or delete your personal data, to object to certain processing, and to withdraw consent — for example by turning off location permission. Most of this can be done in the app; for anything else, email hello@datecandid.com and we will respond within the time the law allows.

8. Security

We use encryption in transit, access controls and row-level database rules so that members can only reach data they are allowed to see. No online service can promise perfect security, so please use a strong, unique password and tell us straight away if something looks wrong.

9. Children

Candid is strictly for adults aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18, and we delete such accounts as soon as we learn of them.

10. International transfers

Our providers may process data in countries other than yours. Where that happens we rely on appropriate safeguards, such as standard contractual clauses, to protect your information.

11. Changes

We will post any update here and change the date above. If a change is significant, we will tell you in the app or by email.
